Pokémon Legends: Z-A – New Trailer Reveals Z-A Royal & Pokémon TCG Pocket’s Shining Revelry Expansion
Hello gamers!
This past week has been thrilling for Pokémon enthusiasts, with The Pokémon Company unveiling exciting updates during the March 27, 2025, Nintendo Direct. We were treated to a new trailer for the upcoming game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and the announcement of the latest expansion for Pokémon TCG Pocket, titled Shining Revelry. Let's delve into these developments.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A – New Trailer Insights
The latest trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A offers a deeper look into Lumiose City, the game's primary setting. Previously, we learned that the city is divided into zones where trainers can encounter and capture wild Pokémon during the day. The new footage, however, shifts focus to nighttime activities, introducing an intriguing feature: the Z-A Royal tournament.
At night, certain zones transform into arenas for the Z-A Royal, where trainers gather to challenge each other. The trailer showcases trainers roaming the area with their Pokémon by their side, ready for battle upon sight. A notable addition is the ability to initiate surprise attacks on unsuspecting trainers from behind, granting an advantage in battles. This mechanic adds a strategic layer to encounters, encouraging players to be both vigilant and tactical.
An interesting detail is the score display at the top right corner during these nighttime battles, indicating a win tally and a form of currency beneath it. This suggests that the Z-A Royal might allow for repeated challenges against trainers, differing from the traditional one-time battles in previous games. It raises the exciting possibility of trainers employing surprise tactics against the player, potentially turning the tables and keeping us on our toes.
In a humorous twist, this new mechanic almost makes it feel like players are "jumping" trainers, battling them, and taking their prize money—a concept long joked about in the Pokémon community. Whether trainers can ambush the player in return remains to be seen, but it's an exciting possibility. Either way, my Totodile is ready to take them all down!

Pokémon TCG Pocket – Shining Revelry Expansion
In addition to the game trailer, Pokémon TCG Pocket has launched its latest expansion, Shining Revelry, on March 27, 2025. This expansion introduces 111 new cards, featuring uniquely colored Shiny Pokémon, including nine new ex cards and fourteen Shiny Pokémon.
Beyond Shiny Pokémon, Shining Revelry also incorporates characters and creatures from the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet video games, showcasing charming illustrations of Tatsugiri, Sprigatito, and Iono.
An important update accompanying this expansion is the ability to trade Triumphant Light Expansion cards, which were previously untradeable. If this trend continues, it seems likely that each new expansion will initially be untradeable, with the previous one being made tradable upon the next release.
Additionally, new ex Starter Deck missions are available from March 27 to April 26, 2025. Completing these missions earns players a deck ticket, which can be exchanged for one of nine starter decks, each featuring a different ex Pokémon as the signature card. Once chosen, the 20 cards included in the deck are permanently added to the player's collection.
The ranked match system has also been introduced, allowing trainers to battle opponents worldwide based on skill level. The first season, featuring Shining Revelry, runs concurrently with the ex Starter Deck missions. Players who participate will receive an emblem based on their final ranking, displayed on their profile.
